Lesson: Uncorking the Cask: Beginning Poe's "The Cask of Amontillado"

Introduction
As we prepare to read "The Cask of Amontillado," I want to make sure that you are properly introduced to the story. Today, you will become familiar with the characters, the setting and the conflicts of the story before we read in order to give you a "snapshot" of what this story is about!
Goals
By the end of this lesson you will be able to: * Visualize the setting of the story * Predict the major events of the story * Identify the conflict that the narrator has with the antagonist.
Directions
Watch "The Cask of Amontillado" video first. This video and the song are based on Poe's story. As you watch and listen, try to visualize what the story is about and where it takes place. After you finish, read the first page of the story and respond to the prompts.

Directions: As some of you may know, Poe had an interesting life! His parents died when he was very young, and he was adopted by the wealthy Allen family. Be sure to look at the following years of Poe's life: 1809, 1811, 1825, 1827, 1831, 1834, 1836, 1847, and 1849.
