This lesson focuses on the American Presidency and the Presidents of the United States from George Washington to Barack Obama.


Students will be able to analyze and evaluate former and current presidents of the United States and their presidencies, as well as research one presidency in depth.


Research one of the American presidencies and synthesize information about that presidency, the election leading up to it, as well as significant events that occurred during that presidency utilizing at least three internet sources. You should be prepared to discuss this presidency in detail with the rest of the class.

Find three websites to use for your presidency research project.


Evaluate at least five websites that can be used for your presidency research project. You will choose at least three of them to use, although you may feel free to use more. Choose the website evaluation strategy for this activity.

Activity: Finding important information on your president



Find out important information about the president that you are researching.


Using http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents, find out what political party your president is/was a part of, who this president ran against, any other important positions your president held, who they chose as vice president, the time they spent in office, important events that occurred during their presidency, and any other information that you feel would be important to add to your research. Select the Journal strategy for this activity.
