URL URL

Goals

Analyze the popularity of reality TV.

Directions

Look through this list of reality TV shows. The website claims that this list includes every reality TV show ever made. Considering the genre first became popular in 1999, only 12 years ago, this is a surprisingly long list. Why do you think reality TV is so popular? Do you watch any reality television? What do you like about those show? Why do you think Suzanne Collins decided to make the Hunger Games a reality television show? Write a response to these questions using the journal strategy from the drop-down list below

Activity: "A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life"

URL URL

Goals

Understand how Suzanne Collins was influenced by William Shakespeare.

Directions

After Peeta declares his love for Katniss on national television, the media begins referring to them as "star-crossed lovers." Read to learn what the term means and how it applies to Romeo and Juliet. Respond to the questions using the journal strategy from the drop-down list below.

Activity: Sell Your Tribute

URL URL

Goals

Design a strategy for making people want to sponsor a Tribute.

Directions

Pretend you are the coach from a different District. You are horrified when you see Peeta announce that he loves Katniss because you know that this will distract attention from your Tributes. Design a strategy to make people want to sponsor your Tributes. Create a Google document titled "(Last name, first initial) Hunger Games Strategy" and share it with me. Write your strategy and include pictures. What will your tributes wear? What will they say? How will they act in the arena (remember that there are hidden microphones and cameras all around the arena)? This will be worth 35 points, and your use of strategies throughout this lesson will be worth 15 points.
